THE COMPLETE WORKS OF FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, Vol. 9, edited by Alan D. Schrift, Stanford University Press

Friedrich Nietzsche — The Case of Wagner / Twilight of the Idols / The Antichrist / Ecce Homo / Dionysus Dithyrambs / Nietzsche Contra Wagner

Translated by Adrian Del Caro, Carol Diethe, Duncan Large, George H. Leiner, Paul S. Loeb, Alan D. Schrift, David F. Tinsley, and Mirko Wittwar, The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, vol. 9

The year 1888 marked the last year of Friedrich Nietzsche’s intellectual career and the culmination of his philosophical development. In that final productive year, he worked on six books, all of which are now, for the first time, presented in English in a single volume. Together these new translations provide a fundamental and complete introduction to Nietzsche’s mature thought and to the virtuosity and versatility of his most fully developed style.

The writings included here have a bold, sometimes radical tone that can be connected to Nietzsche’s rising profile and growing confidence. In The Antichrist, we are offered an extended critique of Christianity and Christian morality alongside blunt diagnoses of contemporary Europe’s cultural decadence. In Dionysus Dithyrambs we are presented with his only work composed exclusively of poetry, and in Twilight of the Idols we find a succinct summary of his mature philosophical views. At times the works are also openly personal, as in The Case of Wagner, which presents Nietzsche’s attempt to settle accounts with his former close friend, German composer Richard Wagner, and in his provocative autobiography, Ecce Homo, which sees Nietzsche taking stock of his past and future while also reflecting on many of his earlier texts.

Scrupulously edited, this critical volume also includes commentary by esteemed Nietzsche scholar Andreas Urs Sommer. Through this new collection, students and scholars are given an essential introduction to Nietzsche’s late thought.

Keith Ansell-Pearson, Rebecca Bamford. NIETZSCHE’S DAWN: PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS, AND THE PASSION OF KNOWLEDGE

Keith Ansell-Pearson, Rebecca Bamford.

Nietzsche’s Dawn: Philosophy, Ethics, and the Passion of Knowledge

Published in 1881, Dawn: Thoughts on the Presumptions of Morality (sometimes translated as Daybreak) was written at a turning point in Nietzsche’s intellectual life and marks a significant departure from the German philosophical tradition of the nineteenth century. Though groundbreaking in many ways, Dawn remains the least studied text in Nietzsche’s body of work, but has experienced a resurgence of interest as trends in contemporary research have focused on Nietzsche’s naturalism and his futurism. In Nietzsche’s Dawn: Philosophy, Ethics, and the Passion of Knowledge, authors Keith Ansell-Pearson and Rebecca Bamford undertake a thorough analysis of the second installment in Nietzsche’s so-called free spirit trilogy.

Nietzsche’s Dawn articulates Dawn’s nascent contributions to the signature doctrines of Nietzsche’s mature scholarship, and examines the continuing relevance of his critique of fear, superstition, and moral and religious fanaticism. Ansell-Pearson and Bamford highlight Dawn’s social-psychological insights and its critical reflections on traditional morality, making connections with recent scholarship on skepticism, ethical naturalism and experimentalism, and the art of living well. The volume opens with an introduction to Dawn and to reading Nietzsche’s work, surveying his literary and philosophical influences to give a full picture of Dawn’s cultural and ideological context. Later chapters address a wide range of topics relevant to Dawn, including presumptions of customary morality, hatred of the self, free-minded thinking, and the commitment to the pursuit of the passion of knowledge.

Original and incisive, Nietzsche’s Dawn imaginatively explores one of Nietzsche’s most underappreciated major works, and is essential reading for scholars and interpreters of Nietzsche and his middle-period writings, as well as general readers with an interest in his life and thought.

Vanessa Lemm. HOMO NATURA. NIETZSCHE, PHILOSOPHICAL ANTHROPOLOGY AND BIOPOLITICS.

Vanessa Lemm

Homo Natura. Nietzsche, Philosophical Anthropology and Biopolitics.

Nietzsche coins the enigmatic term homo natura to capture his understanding of the human being as a creature of nature and tasks philosophy with the renaturalisation of humanity.

Following Foucault’s critique of the human sciences, Vanessa Lemm discusses the reception of Nietzsche’s naturalism in philosophical anthropology, psychoanalysis and gender studies.

She offers an original reading of homo natura that brings back the ancient Greek idea of nature and sexuality as creative chaos and of the philosophical life as outspoken and embodied truth, perhaps best exemplified by the Cynics’ embrace of social and cultural transformation.

HUMAIN, TROP HUMAIN I. Traduction inédite, présentation et notes de Patrick Wotling

Friedrich Nietzsche – Humain, trop humain I

HUMAIN, TROP HUMAIN II. Traduction inédite d’Éric Blondel, Ole Hansen-Løve, Théo Leydenbach

Friedrich Nietzsche – Humain, trop humain II

Wilson Frezzatti Jr. NIETZSCHE E A PSICOFISIOLOGIA FRANCESA DO SECULO XIX

Wilson Frezzatti Jr

Nietzsche e a psicofisiologia francesa do século XIX.

Andreas Urs Sommer. WAS BLEIBT VON NIETZSCHES PHILOSOPHIE ?

Andreas Urs Sommer

Was bleibt von Nietzsches Philosophie ?

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, Vol. 14 and Vol. 16, edited by Alan D. Schrift and Duncan Large, Stanford University Press

Friedrich Nietzsche – Unpublished Fragments (Spring 1885-Spring 1886)

Translated, with an Afterword, by Adrian Del Caro, The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, vol. 16

This volume of The Complete Works provides the first English translation of all Nietzsche’s unpublished notes from April 1885 to the summer of 1886, the period in which he wrote his breakthrough philosophical books Beyond Good and Evil and On the Genealogy of Morality. Keen to reinvent himself after Thus Spoke Zarathustra, the philosopher used these unpublished notes to chart his search for a new philosophical voice. The notebooks contain copious drafts of book titles; critical retrospection on his earlier projects; a critique of the feminine; prophetic commentary on Germany; and forays into metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and language. They also reveal his deep concern for Europe and its future and a burgeoning presence of the Dionysian. We learn what Nietzsche was reading and from whom he borrowed, and we find a considerable portion of notes and fragments from the non-book “Will to Power,” though here they are unembellished and unmediated. Richly annotated and accompanied by a detailed translator’s afterword, this landmark volume sheds light on the controversy surrounding the Nachlass of the 1880s.

Friedrich Nietzsche – Unpublished Fragments from the Period of Thus Spoke Zarathustra (Summer 1882-Spring 1883/84)

Translated, with an Afterword, by Paul S. Loeb and David F. Tinsley, The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, vol. 14

This volume provides the first English translation of Nietzsche’s unpublished notebooks from 1882–1884, the period in which he was composing the book that he considered his best and most important work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Crucial transitional documents in Nietzsche’s intellectual development, the notebooks mark a shift into what is widely regarded as the philosopher’s mature period. They reveal his long-term design of a fictional tetralogy charting the philosophical, pedagogical, and psychological journeys of his alter-ego, Zarathustra. Here, in nuce, appear Zarathustra’s teaching about the death of God; his discovery that the secret of life is the will to power; and his most profound and most frightening thought—that his own life, human history, and the entire cosmos will eternally return. During this same period, Nietzsche was also composing preparatory notes for his next book, Beyond Good and Evil, and the notebooks are especially significant for the insight they provide into his evolving theory of drives, his critical ideas about the nature and history of morality, and his initial thoughts on one of his best-known concepts, the superhuman (Übermensch).

Blaise Benoit. LA PHILOSOPHIE DE NIETZSCHE

Blaise Benoit.

Luca Lupo. FORME ED ETICA DEL TEMPO IN NIETZSCHE

Luca Lupo

Keith Ansell-Pearson.

Nietzsche’s Search for Philosophy. On the Middle Writings

In Nietzsche’s Search for Philosophy : On the Middle Writings Keith Ansell-Pearson makes a novel and thought-provoking contribution to our appreciation of Nietzsche’s neglected middle writings. These are the texts Human, all too Human (1878-80), Dawn (1881), and The Gay Science (1882). There is a truth in the observation of Havelock Ellis that the works Nietzsche produced between 1878 and 1882 represent the maturity of his genius.

In this study he explores key aspects of Nietzsche’s philosophical activity in his middle writings, including his conceptions of philosophy, his commitment to various enlightenments, his critique of fanaticism, his search for the heroic-idyllic, his philosophy of modesty and his conception of ethics, and his search for joy and happiness. The book will appeal to readers across philosophy and the humanities, especially to those with an interest in Nietzsche and anyone who has a concern with the fate of philosophy in the modern world.

Friedrich Nietzsche. MAS ALLA DEL BIEN Y DEL MAL. Preludio de una filosofía del futuro

Friedrich Nietzsche.

Más allá del bien y del mal. Preludio de una filosofía del futuro

Kilian Lavernia (Traductor)

Clademir Araldi. DO ROMANTISMO A NIETZSCHE : RUPTURAS E TRANSFORMAÇÕES NA FILOSOFIA DO SECULO XIX

Clademir Araldi

Do Romantismo a Nietzsche : Rupturas e Transformações
